To Everything, There is a Season

June 19, 2012

Everyone who’s important to Katy has visited Mema and Papa’s house at some point. Its a place where everyone gathers in the summer evenings. Most likely you’ll find the entire family and a few friends around the kitchen table or sitting in lawn chairs on the front driveway chatting and watching neighbors pass by. I’ve known Katy for over 15 years and I am one of those lucky people.

Mema passed away earlier this year and tragically, souls that have loved one another for 65 years can’t stay apart for very long. Papa has cancer and will be joining his love very soon. Everyone was looking forward to Katy’s wedding this fall. So on June 13th, 2012, Katy and Jason, along with Katy’s family and Jason’s brothers, went down to the courthouse in Brenham and had a short and sweet civil ceremony so that Papa could be there.

I have never known a more amazing family than the Finke’s. They love one another and are there for each other through thick and thin. They laugh, cry, celebrate, and mourn together. And on this day, they were celebrating love and a marriage while having to come together to decide how to handle their ailing patriarch. It was a raw and beautiful day in the real world. And I am blessed to be her friend, to tell their story and witness such an incredible bond between their family.
