How did you choose your venues?
I wanted our out of town guests to experience downtown Austin and Brazos Hall was the perfect space for our guest count. It was a huge bonus that we did not have to have a rain plan with the space. A quick flip to plan B can be stressful and we wanted to eliminate that situation.
Describe your decor and how you chose it?
Our vision revolved around components that would create a “romantic evening”—moody colors, warm candlelit dining, velvets, black matte details with hints of gold. I have been planning other couples’ weddings for the past five years in Austin and was able to choose my most memorable designs to incorporate into our wedding, making it uniquely ours.
Tell me about your attire – who designed your dress and where did you buy it?
I wore a dress by Yaniv Persy. It was purchased at Serendipity Bridal in Austin Texas. The staff there were super helpful and patient.
What shoes did you choose and what jewelry did you wear?
I chose a comfortable shoe with a small heel. I know that the shoes are rarely seen, and I wanted to be comfortable. I wore small stud earrings and a vintage pearl purse that was my grandmas.
Who designed the bridesmaid’s dresses?
I asked the bridesmaids to choose any black dress of their choice. It worked out very well with the men in matching black tuxedos.
And your groom – tell me about his look – who was his suit designer? Any other significant accessories?
His tux was from suit supply. He had a black velvet jacket which was stunning! I knew he really loved the burgundy velvet tux jacket as well, so I surprised him with this one for the wedding. He switched between the two colors on the wedding day.
Why did you choose me, Jenny, to be your wedding photographer?
With a romantic and moody day in mind, I knew I needed a photographer that could really capture the overall feel of the day. Jenny is incredible at not only capturing natural light images, but candlelit spaces as well. Which is huge — the pictures are just as important once the sun goes down! She also is great at capturing the special moments on the day between Mike and I; we are extremely happy with our photos!
What was one of your favorite moments from your wedding day?
A special moment we shared, (and I recommend), was viewing our ceremony and reception area together before any guests entered. The stillness and candlelight was breathtaking!
What was your favorite image from your wedding day?
Our couples portraits were some of my favorite! We had just seen each other for the first time and we were so happy!!!
Did any of your other vendors go above and beyond for you?
We definitely had the vendor dream team! Our videographer (ILC Films) really went above and beyond on the day. They showed up a few hours early to capture details and even came to the rehearsal dinner to film the speeches. They are the best!
Do you have any tips to share with other couples?
Pick a design you love and stick with it. (Pinterest can drive you crazy during the months leading up to the wedding day.) Be confident in your original inspiration. Also, don’t dwell on the small things — like the font style of your cocktail napkins. Pick one and move on so you can truly enjoy the planning process.
