A Classic Austin Wedding at Westwood Country Club

Maddy and Will’s Austin wedding felt polished, playful, and deeply connected to the places and people that shaped them. The celebration began at Maddy’s childhood home, continued with a traditional church ceremony at Tarrytown United Methodist Church, and ended with an unforgettable lakeside reception at Westwood Country Club.

Designed and planned by Barbara Shorts of Verve Events, the wedding paired fresh shades of blue, green, and white with delicate butterfly details woven throughout the stationery and reception design. Getting Ready at the Bride’s Childhood Home

Maddy spent the morning surrounded by her family and closest friends in the Austin home where she grew up. Preparing for the wedding there added another layer of meaning to the day, especially as she shared a private dress reveal with her father before leaving for the ceremony.

Her wedding gown from Stanley Korshak Bride featured an Anne Barge dress with a Romona Keveža topper. She completed the look with Dior shoes she found through The RealReal. For the reception, she changed into a shorter custom look created by Stanley Korshak’s in-house designer.

One of the most sentimental details was the handkerchief incorporated into Maddy’s bouquet. Her mother, aunt, and grandmother purchased it together in Italy, making it a quiet family heirloom carried with her throughout the ceremony.

A Traditional Ceremony at Tarrytown United Methodist Church

Maddy and Will met during their freshman year at Auburn University and began dating as sophomores. Their shared history includes college football, concerts, long walks, trying new restaurants, and road trips with friends. Years later, many of those same friends traveled to Austin to celebrate alongside them.

The couple exchanged vows at Tarrytown United Methodist Church in a ceremony officiated by Allison Angell, a longtime family friend who had also been Maddy’s third-grade Bible teacher. Terravista Strings provided the ceremony music, helping create a reverent and personal atmosphere.

After the ceremony, Maddy and Will stepped outside the church as newlyweds before making their way toward Westwood Country Club and the evening’s biggest surprise.

A Grand Entrance by Boat

Rather than arriving at the reception by car, Maddy and Will made their entrance by boat. Guests gathered along the Westwood Country Club dock to welcome them, creating one of the most joyful and distinctly Austin moments of the wedding.

The lakefront cocktail hour gave their many out-of-town guests a chance to experience another side of the city. Inside, Wild Bunches Floral filled the club with abundant blue-and-white flowers and greenery. A floral installation framed the entrance, while tailored linens, gold accents, and layered table settings gave the reception a refined finish.

Butterflies appeared throughout the celebration as an important element of the wedding design. K.Laine Design incorporated illustrated blue butterflies into the stationery suite alongside an interlocking monogram, botanical motifs, and shades of soft blue and green. Additional butterfly details appeared among the flowers, creating small discoveries throughout the space.

Dinner, Dancing, and a Lakeside Celebration

Maddy and Will wanted the evening to feel like a true celebration with everyone they loved gathered in Austin. Following their first dances and cake cutting, guests enjoyed dinner before Matchmaker Band opened the dance floor.

The couple’s love of live music has long been part of their relationship, with memories tied to Leon Bridges, The Avett Brothers, Billy Strings, and the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. It was fitting that dancing became such a central part of their reception.

Maddy changed into her reception dress for the final portion of the evening, and the newlyweds ended the celebration with another memorable departure, leaving Westwood Country Club in her father’s Mercedes convertible.

Maddy and Will’s wedding brought together family history, meaningful traditions, and a relaxed sense of fun. More than anything, it created space for them to be present with the people who had traveled to celebrate this next chapter with them.
