I am based in Austin and have photographed weddings throughout Texas for more than 15 years. My Houston work includes celebrations at River Oaks Country Club, La Colombe d’Or, Le Tesserae, Lakeside Country Club, Thompson Houston, and other venues across the city.
I work closely with couples and planners before the wedding so the photography fits naturally into the larger event. That preparation becomes especially important for weddings with multiple locations, large families, detailed production schedules, or a full weekend of events.
My goal is simple: make beautiful photographs without turning the wedding into a photo shoot.
Documentary Wedding Photography in Houston
I photograph weddings with a mix of observation and direction. Most of the day, I am watching for what is already happening: guest interactions, family moments, movement on the dance floor, reactions during speeches, and the smaller things that can easily disappear in a busy room. When direction is useful, I give it. That may mean organizing a large family group quickly, helping a couple find good light for a few portraits, or adjusting the photography timeline so we can photograph a reception room before guests enter. After more than 15 years of photographing weddings, I am comfortable working in very different environments and lighting conditions. Houston weddings often move between hotel rooms, churches, clubs, gardens, ballrooms, and outdoor spaces in the same day. The photography needs to adapt without slowing everything down.

River Oaks Country Club
A rainy wedding day meant the original outdoor plans changed, but River Oaks Country Club has enough strong interior spaces that the portraits never felt like a backup plan. The ceremony took place in the Main Dining Room, cocktail hour moved into the Salon, and the Grand Ballroom was filled with floral installations by Blooming Gallery. The wedding was planned by Emilee Proctor and the Belle Events team.
La Colombe d’Or offers a completely different Houston setting.
The property combines historic architecture, gardens, art, and hotel spaces within one location. It works especially well for weddings that want the convenience of a hotel without feeling like a traditional ballroom wedding.
Le Tesserae brings a more modern perspective to a Houston reception.
The skyline, interiors, and evening light create a strong setting for reception photographs, while the design can take on a very different personality once the room fills with guests.
I also photograph weddings throughout the greater Houston area and am always happy to work at a venue that is new to me.
When I have not photographed a property before, I scout it ahead of time or arrive early enough to understand the light, portrait locations, guest flow, and any logistical challenges before the important parts of the day begin.
Working With Houston Wedding Planners
The planner-photographer relationship matters. A strong photography timeline should support the wedding rather than compete with it. I have worked with Houston and Texas planning teams, including Belle Events, Whitt Ross, and others, on weddings with very different levels of production. I appreciate planners who communicate clearly about the schedule, design priorities, family dynamics, and guest experience. In return, I try to be proactive about anything that affects photography so there are fewer surprises on the wedding day. For the River Oaks Country Club wedding I recently photographed with Belle Events, our conversations included family formal timing, portrait plans, room photography, and how the photography team would move through the property. That kind of communication is especially important when several things are happening at once.
Photographing Large Houston Weddings
Some weddings need more than two photographers. The right team size depends on the schedule, number of locations, guest count, family priorities, and production. For larger celebrations, I may position photographers in different places rather than having everyone follow the couple. One photographer may stay at the reception venue while another covers an off-site ceremony. Someone may need to photograph extensive room details before guests arrive while another photographer is with the family. The goal is not simply to have more cameras. The goal is to make sure the right photographer is already in the right place when something important happens.
Houston Wedding Photography That Feels Like the Wedding
I want the final photographs to reflect how the wedding actually felt. That includes the design and architecture, but it also includes the people filling those spaces. I photograph the room before guests enter because the work of the planner, florist, rental company, lighting team, and production crew deserves to be documented properly. Then I photograph what happens once everyone arrives. The conversations at cocktail hour, a parent watching the ceremony, friends laughing at dinner, crowded dance floors, and the quieter interactions happening just outside the center of attention are equally important. That balance is what makes a gallery feel complete.

For larger wedding weekends, I build the photography plan around the schedule rather than forcing everything into a standard package.
What happens if you have not photographed our Houston venue before?
I prepare. If the venue is new to me, I review the property beforehand and scout it when needed. On the wedding day, I arrive with enough time to understand the light, portrait locations, room access, and event flow. Photographing a venue well is less about memorizing a list of predetermined photo locations and more about knowing how to read light and make good decisions quickly.
What happens if it rains?
The portrait plan changes. The standard for the photography does not. At a recent River Oaks Country Club wedding, rain prevented us from using the patio and grounds. We used the windows, curved hallway, green wallpaper, and interior architecture for the bride’s portraits and family photographs instead. That is one reason I pay attention to indoor options when planning a wedding day.
Do you work with Houston wedding planners?
Yes. I have worked with established Houston and Texas planning teams and regularly coordinate directly with planners before the wedding regarding timelines, portrait timing, family photographs, room details, and photography logistics.
Do you photograph both documentary moments and formal portraits?
Yes. Documentary photography is at the center of my work, but I also believe family photographs and portraits should be handled well. I work quickly when photographs need organization and step back when direction is not necessary. The two approaches do not have to compete with each other.
Do you travel to Houston from Austin?
Yes. Houston is a regular market for my studio, and travel planning is handled as part of the wedding photography proposal.
Do you charge travel fees for Houston weddings?
No. Travel within the Houston area is included in all wedding weekend quotes.
