A Love Story Sparked by a Whippet Named Lasagna
Every great love story has a little magic in it, and sometimes, a dog named Lasagna.
Lucy and Roger first matched on Hinge in 2022 after Roger’s quick wit (and his adorable whippet pup) caught Lucy’s attention. Their first date at a local brewery, with Lasagna happily in tow, set the tone for a relationship full of laughter, curiosity, and adventure.
By their second date, Roger was cooking steak and potatoes for Lucy — a preview of the warmth and intentionality that would define their future together. Two years later, during a spring trip to Aspen, he proposed on a mountaintop hike at 11,000 feet, secretly recording the moment as he dropped to one knee. With the Rockies surrounding them, Lucy said “yes,” and the rest is history.
A Destination Feel in the Texas Hill Country
When it came time to plan their wedding, Lucy and Roger wanted something that felt like Colorado but closer to home — natural, refined, and a little bit wild.
Nestled deep in the Texas Hill Country, their celebration had all the destination wedding vibes of a mountain retreat: sweeping vistas, a mix of textures, and a weekend of relaxed luxury.
Planned by Verve Austin, the design balanced effortless elegance with playful color. Lucy wore a strapless A-line gown from Amour Bridal with bright, floral-inspired shoes that added a pop of personality. Roger chose a sage-green suit from Soto & Co., tailored to perfection, that mirrored the earthy tones of the landscape and the couple’s adventurous energy.
Design That Felt Like the Mountains — Warm, Textural, and Wild
The floral design by Westbank Flower Market embraced the natural palette of the surrounding hills: wildflower-inspired blooms, soft oranges, dusty pinks, and pops of golden yellow. The look felt organic yet elevated, as if plucked straight from a summer meadow.
Bridesmaids wore sunset-hued dresses that caught the light just so, echoing the soft, painterly tones of dusk in the mountains.
Throughout the day, personal details tied the design to their story:
- Dog-themed stationery and cake accents celebrated their beloved whippet, Lasagna.
- A wedding barrel hand-burned by Roger invited guests to sign a keepsake they’d treasure for years.
- Luggage tag seating cards nodded to their shared love of travel.
Everything felt intentional and story-driven — the hallmarks of a truly editorial celebration.
The Weekend Experience
Lucy and Roger’s weekend unfolded like a destination retreat, complete with meaningful gatherings across three days.
Friday: A relaxed rehearsal dinner at Portree Cellars, catered by Contigo Catering, with live bluegrass music setting the tone for a laid-back welcome.
Saturday: The ceremony beneath oak trees, with Terra Vista Strings playing softly as guests arrived. A glowing reception tent filled with golden light, laughter, and color. Dinner by The RK Group and a cake by The Chocolate Llama — both beautifully styled and deeply delicious.
Sunday: A farewell brunch at Carter Creek, where guests shared stories and final hugs before heading home.
The atmosphere throughout the weekend was one of warmth and connection — every detail designed to feel effortless yet unforgettable.
Dancing Beneath the Stars
As the sun dipped behind the hills, guests filled the dance floor under a canopy of string lights by Austin Event Lighting. The tent, provided by Whim Hospitality, glowed like a lantern against the night sky.
DJ Nixx kept the dance floor alive, while Voast’s video booth captured the spontaneous laughter and energy of the evening. Every song, every toast, every tear — all captured artfully by Jenny DeMarco Photography and Crescent Films.
Their night ended beneath a sky full of stars, surrounded by friends, family, and the soft hum of Hill Country crickets — the perfect Texas-meets-mountains moment.
