Capturing LGBTQIA+ Weddings with Intention

I specialize in documentary wedding photography, which means I focus on how your day feels. No stiff, posed moments—just genuine interactions, raw emotions, and the little details that make your wedding uniquely yours.

LGBTQIA+ weddings are anything but cookie-cutter. Maybe you’re skipping the traditional aisle walk, wearing something completely unexpected, or creating your own rituals. However you celebrate, my approach is about capturing it with authenticity—without assumptions, without trying to fit your love into a template.

Featured LGBTQIA+ Weddings

Here are some incredible LGBTQIA+ couples whose weddings I’ve had the privilege of documenting:

Jeff & Joel – Prospect House

Engaged before marriage equality was legal, their wedding was more than just a celebration—it was a historic moment. Their joy was contagious, and the moment they signed their marriage license, surrounded by family and friends, will stay with me forever.

Kirk & Warren – South Congress Hotel

Kirk and Warren’s wedding was the perfect blend of modern and personal. They met through online dating and got engaged while overlooking the Mediterranean in Italy. Their day was filled with deep, intentional moments—including a nod to their love of travel and their beloved dog, Thatcher.

Stace and Pat– Skybox

A weekend full of celebration, these grooms were married at an intimate destination beach wedding earlier in the year and decided to host the weekend full of celebration with all their family and friends in their home city of Austin. The weekend started off with a casual portrait session of the two of them and then later met up for the welcome party. The next day we photographed the two of them getting ready and a swaky portrait session in their tuxes. Their reception at Skybox was full of friends, family and colleagues with featured heartfelt toasts, first dances, and cake cutting and lots and lots of yummy food.

Finding LGBTQIA+ Friendly Vendors

Finding vendors who celebrate you is one of the most important steps in wedding planning. As Jeff and Joel put it:

“Be open and upfront about who you are, and don’t apologize for it. Most businesses are jumping to work with LGBTQ+ clients. We are an untapped market. If you are rejected by a vendor, try not to take it personally—it’s a reflection on them, not you. Look for vendors who are excited to work with you.”

I’ve worked alongside incredible planners, florists, and venues who create an inclusive space for every couple. If you’re looking for recommendations, I’d be happy to share vendors who will celebrate your love the way it deserves to be.

Making the Planning Process Easier

Wedding planning can be overwhelming, and if you don’t have full support from family, it can feel even more daunting. Kirk and Warren found that breaking it into smaller steps made everything easier:

“We made a calendar of when decisions needed to be made and just worked on the next task or two on the list. Breaking it up made it easier to wrap our heads around—and easier on our relationship. Oh, and let the person who cares more make the final decision!”

No matter how big or small your wedding is, my goal is to make photography the easiest part of your planning process. I’ll help guide you through the timeline, create a relaxed experience, and document every meaningful moment so you can focus on what really matters—each other.
